While George W. Reilly leads his latest column in the Providence Journal with news about the 2-percent cost-of-living-adjustment in veterans benefits, it’s his item about a partnership called Operation Deep Dive that’s also worth a look.
“America’s Warrior Partnership, a national nonprofit organization, is partnering with the University of Alabama and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation on a four-year, $3.9-million research study, called Operation Deep Dive, to examine the causes of suicides among military veterans. The study will focus on local factors affecting veteran suicide risk, the first time that community environments will be incorporated into research of the issue. This approach aims to drive the development of more effective programs to prevent or reduce self-harm among military veterans,” he writes.
